Rogério Ceni regrets the defeat, but highlights Bahia’s performance
The Bahia team and coach Rogério Ceni were booed during the match and after the final whistle; Gilberto and Matheus Bahia also argued on the pitch.

Bahia’s 3-0 defeat against Cuiaba on Thursday evening, at the Arena Fonte Nova, in the 33rd round of the Série A, was marked by moments of tension. If before the ball rolled the atmosphere was already full of mistrust, after that it got even worse… According to Ceni, the team’s performance was greatly affected by the before and after Camilo Cándido’s expulsion.
The moment Ceni refers to occurred in the 20th minute of the first half, when Cándido touched the ball on the line to prevent Deyverson’s goal. The move led to the left-back being sent off and led to Cuiabá’s first goal of the match.
The red card was also a reason why the coach changed the team to give more defensive power, with Juba replacing Biel. Bahia’s number 10, however, is not satisfied with Ceni’s substitution and leaves the pitch crying. Fans booed for the substitution and shouted ‘donkey’ in the stands. As a bonus, the number 10 walked off the pitch kicking bottles, hitting the bench and heading towards the dressing room only to return later.
– We weren’t behind, I think we positioned ourselves badly. Biel ended up in the middle, which allowed a two-on-one at the other end. The team did not play retreated. We had Yago in the role of Thaciano, we had control of the match, but we were not strong. When there were ten of us down, it seemed like we were better at exchanging passes and getting into their zone. I think we missed more passes than normal, we weren’t able to build. It was not a happy night – said Ceni.
Ceni reiterated the signs of emotional unpreparedness of some athletes expressed in this final stretch of the Brasileirão.
– Nervousness is natural. A defeat like this brings great psychological damage. We will have to join forces in view of the match against Atletico, we will study to try to do our best and achieve this triumph, which is fundamental to staying in the fight – said Ceni.
The team led by Rogério Ceni returns to the field next Sunday (12th), once again alongside the fans, at the Arena Fonte Nova, in the match against Atletico Paranaense, for the 34th matchday of the Brasileirão.
