A few months after One Piece, Netflix may already have a new hit. This week, the platform unveiled the first images of its long-awaited live-action series Avatar, The Last Airbender, an adaptation of the cartoon of the same name.
Aired on Nickelodeon in the early 2000s, Avatar (which apparently has no connection to James Cameron’s film franchise) tells the story of Aang, the reincarnation of Avatar who can master the four elements. Trapped in ice, he awakens from a 100-year slumber to discover that he is the last remaining member of a clan of airbenders.
Hunted relentlessly by Prince Zuko of the Land of Fire, Aang is able to rely on his friends Sokka and Karata, Mistress of Water. With the child’s careless nature, the young hero will have to accept his fate and begin a quest that will allow him to master the four elements: fire, water, earth and air.
This Netflix series is the second live-action adaptation of The Last Airbender. In 2010, M. Night Shyamalan’s live-action feature film was released in theaters, but was a critical and commercial failure. With an audience rating of 2.1 out of 5, it is also the lowest rated film in the director’s filmography.
Never forget who you are.

With a solid budget, the series Avatar: The Last Airbender brings together young actors who are little known to the general public in its cast: Gordon Cormier is Aang, Chiaventio Tarbell lends his features to Katara, Ian Ausley plays Sokka and Dallas Liu plays Zuko. Fire Lord Ozai is played by Daniel Dae Kim, and his brother Iro is played by Paul Sun-Hyun Lee.
You won’t have to wait long to discover this second live-action adaptation of the popular cartoon, as the first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender will be available on Netflix starting February 22nd.
