The Prime Minister reiterated that the goal is to eliminate Hamas
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has assured that he does not intend to govern or occupy the territory of the Gaza Strip, the scene of a conflict against the fundamentalist group Hamas that has lasted for more than a month.
“We do not seek to occupy, but rather to ensure a better future for the entire Middle East. This requires the defeat of Hamas,” the prime minister said in an interview with the US channel Fox News.
Netanyahu, however, avoided setting deadlines for the end of the war against the fundamentalist group. “I wish it was quick, but we are taking it step by step, reducing our casualties and trying to minimize civilian casualties,” he said.
To date, according to Gaza authorities, around 11,000 Palestinians have died in Israeli shelling, with most of the victims being children and women.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said 99 of its workers in the Gaza Strip have been killed since the war began.
Visiting India, Antony Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States, Israel’s main ally, said there was still “much to be done” to protect Palestinian civilians. .
