For the “Marvetics” on duty, not very good news: the studio will release only one film in 2024, and the chosen one was Deadpool 3. According to Deadline, Disney announced the decision on Thursday (9) after confirming the end of the Hollywood actors’ strike, which required a reorganization of the release calendar.
Compared to 2023, having only one release in 2024 is quite a drop for Marvel, which has skyrocketed compared to other studios with multiple releases from 2021 to today. Just this year, for example, we saw at least three major productions at the cinema: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 AND The wonders (which hits the big screen this month). Not to mention the success of the series destined for Disney+, such as Secret invasion and the expected new season of Loki.
Along with the combination of postponements, Disney also announced the postponement of The Lion King 2, a new live-action film focusing on Mufasa. Furthermore, the film will only be released in theaters in 2025.
The Hollywood Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) finally accepted this week the proposal of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represents movie studios in the United States, officially ending the strike.
The strike began in May, with the Screenwriters Union, and lasted more than 120 days, ranking as one of the longest in history. The WGA (writers union) reached an agreement with AMPTP in October.
As recently predicted by Deadline, Deadpool 3 It would be one of the first productions to resume recording due to the proximity of its release. Poison 3 should be next to speed up the work.
Previous films by Dead Pool, between 2016 and 2018, they collectively raised more than $1.5 billion worldwide. Directed by Shawn Levi, the new Deadpool 3 will be released in theaters on July 26, 2024.
