Although The Good Doctor received some very good news with its renewal for Season 7, the franchise will no longer be expanding around Dr. Sean Murphy. Indeed, the project for a series derived from fiction was simply abandoned by ABC (which broadcasts the show in the United States)!
not a “good lawyer”
During the 6th season of the medical series, our hero, played by Freddie Highmore, found himself persecuted in court. Thus, he used the role of future lawyer, Joni DeGroot, a young woman who suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorders, which often prevented her from practicing law.
This plot, this new hero and his sidekicks were introduced in a somewhat special episode of The Good Doctor, commonly known as Rear door pilot. This “test” section allowed us to see how the audience would react to this potential future hero… Unfortunately, it’s clear that the test was inconclusive!
Felicity Huffman could not be returned
In the credits of this aborted series, which was supposed to be titled The Good Lawyer (translated into French as “A good lawyerIn John’s shoes, the public found actor Kennedy McMann. But that’s not all!
The project would also bring a Desperate Housewives alum back to the fore: Felice Huffman (who played Lynette Scavo on the iconic series)! Here the star would lend his qualities to Johnny’s mentor, Janet.
Finally, the actress Bethlehem Million would complete the cast of The Good Lawyer. It would play Abby, John’s sister… too bad!
However, The Good Doctor will probably return to our screens in 2024 (due to the major strike that has hit Hollywood in recent months). Something happy after this sad announcement…
