A day after announcing the end of the actors’ strike in the United States, Disney made announcements regarding the release dates of the following films. As filming resumes, studios, including Disney, now have a better idea of the specific impact that the shutdown will have on their production, post-production and release schedules.
So it’s a big game of musical chairs when it comes to Disney-Marvel movies over the next few months.
Deadpool 3 steps back and picks up where Captain America 4 started. which is postponed by more than 6 months, from July 26, 2024 to February 14, 2025. Therefore, there will only be one Marvel movie in 2024.
Thunderbolts makes way for Mufasa: The Lion King, which will eventually be released for Christmas 2024 instead of a summer release.
Here are all the date changes announced by Disney:
– Deadpool 3 moves from May 3, 2024 to July 26, 2024
– Mufasa: The Lion King moves from July 5, 2024 to December 20, 2024
– Captain America 4 moves from July 26, 2024 to February 14, 2025
– Thunderbolts moves from December 20, 2024 to July 25, 2025
– Blade moves from February 14, 2025 to November 7, 2025
There are also two “UNTITLED DISNEY” dated July 25, 2025 and November 7, 2025 that have been removed from the release schedule.
So there will be fewer Marvel movies in 2024, but more in 2025, given the new Fantastic Four installment slated for release on April 30, 2025, and whose date remains unchanged for now.
Thus, in 2024, Marvel-Disney could be rethinking their superhero movie strategy, while “superhero fatigue” is felt more than ever with the disappointing departure of The Marvels.
