The Netflix original “Blonde,” a biographical work of the controversial Marilyn Monroe, won its first images, with a teaser starring Ana de Armas.

Based on the 2000 novel of the same name by author Joyce Carol Oates, Blonde will be the first Netflix Original film to be rated NC-17, meaning 18+.

In addition to the teaser, Netflix has also dropped the “Blonde” release date, which we now know will arrive in September of this year.

Watch the first official “Blonde” teaser:

The teaser begins with a crying Marilyn Monroe played by Cuban actress Ana de Armas, comforted by a man. She says, “Please come! Don’t leave me.” In the sequence we see Monroe at the center of everyone’s attention, with her iconic poses, her scandals, in movies, on the red carpets.

Eventually, we hear a voice saying, “It’s coming, it’s almost there.” Then, Monroe’s cry turns into laughter and the teaser ends.

Based on Joyce’s bestseller Carol Oates, “Blonde” reinvents the life of one of Hollywood’s greatest icons, Marilyn Monroe. From an unstable childhood as Norma Jeane to fame and relationships, “Blonde” fuses reality and fiction, exploring the widening gap between the public and private sides of the actress. Written and directed by Andrew Dominik, the film stars Ana de Armas, Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams.

“Blonde” arrives on Netflix on September 23rd.
