On December 14th, as an early Christmas present for anime fans, Netflix will release the first season of Yu Yu Hakusho, a new adaptation of the event following One Piece.
For connoisseurs, this will perhaps be proof that the platform has found the right approach to successfully bring a genre that was previously considered unadaptable to live action. Newcomers, on the other hand, will be able to discover the fantastic world created by Yoshihiro Togashi (mangaka and husband of Sailor Moon creator Naoko Takeuchi).
“Am I dead?”
The founding work of shonen manga from the early 90s (as well as dragon ball and (SlamDunk), Yu Yu Hakusho follows Yusuke Urameshi, a young thug who recently died. He is then brought back to life as a ghost to serve as a “soul detective” among humans and hunt down the demons and creatures that haunt our world. Between the monsters, the superpowers, and the investigation, the show promises to be there.

Through these ambitious and promising first images, fans will be able to appreciate the visual approach to bringing the fantasy world of the work to life, but also the actors chosen to play their characters: Takumi Kitamura (as Yusuke Urameshi), Kanata. Hongô (Hiei), Jun Shison (Kurama) and Shuhei Uesugi (Kazuma Kuwabara). And let’s not forget the dark and formidable Toguro, our heroes’ arch-enemy, who reveals himself, implacable and menacing, with sunglasses and a brother slung over his shoulder.
