Arnold Schwarzenegger is full of good movies, some a bit more risque and one where he calls his role “funny”. Here we will focus on the first category, the SF nugget, undoubtedly the genre in which the legendary bodybuilder actor found his best roles.
What is this very good sci-fi movie directed by Arnold Schwarzenegger and available on Netflix that we want to highlight here? Part one of the famous Terminator saga? Full recall of Paul Verhoeven? predator? Let go, none of these three!
The film we’re focusing a little on is Dawn of the Sixth, directed by Roger Spottiswoode, who also owes James Bond’s Tomorrow Never Dies. Released in theaters in 2000, this sci-fi takes us back to a time when genetics has made tremendous progress, eradicating disease and ending hunger. Confused by the world’s evolution, helicopter pilot Adam Gibson, played by Schwarz, is even more confused when he finds his clone at home celebrating his birthday with his family.
Adam was immediately pursued by assassins in the pay of Michael Drucker, one of the richest biological industrialists on the planet. To protect his empire, he must destroy Adam before revealing his plan.
Allowing viewers to have two Schwartzes for the price of one (and featuring Robert Duvall in a very likable role as a mad scientist), Dawn of the 6th is a highly entertaining SF thriller about genetic aberrations. Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as both the lead actor and executive producer for the first time in his career. The actor was previously the executive producer of Last Action Hero.
When Dawn of the 6th Day came out, Arnold Schwarzenegger talked about cloning, the main theme of the film. “The main concern with this technology is primarily the question of ethics”he explained. “The problem is more genetic manipulation than cloning itself. It’s comparable to what’s happening with the Internet: most cloning experiments are done to create something better for humanity, but there’s always the possibility of abuse, misuse, and corruption.”
