‘He didn’t want to hire me’: This weird bastards star didn’t want Tarantino

In 2009, Inglourious Basterds, the story of a lieutenant who trains Jewish American soldiers to carry out punitive actions against the Nazis, hit theaters. Directed by Quentin Tarantino, the film is one of the most famous authors. But did you know that one of the stars of this film, starring Jonathan Cohen, almost didn’t make it into the adventure?

Who couldn’t appear in the credits of Inglourious Basterds, a movie that comic books were considered for? Brad Pitt playing Lt. Aldo Raine on screen? Christoph Waltz, whose portrayal of Colonel Hans Landa won him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor and an acting award at Cannes? French Melanie Laurent?

We won’t hold back any longer: It was German actress Diane Kruger who came very close to not starring in Inglourious Basterds. “Quentin Tarantino didn’t want to hire me”, He recently told Variety The one who plays the character of Bridget von Hammersmark in the movie. “He had written the role for someone else, he wanted someone ‘really German’. He thought I wasn’t.”

“I had to fly to Germany at my own expense and he asked me to learn 15 pages of dialogue in German and English.”Diane Kruger continues. “It was incredibly difficult, I had two days to prepare, but I knew I was made for this role.”

Diane Kruger was finally chosen and has no regrets. The actress has really wonderful memories from filming with Tarantino. “When you choose, it’s only love”he said, still to Variety. “He’s there to support. He’s right next to the camera and you feel like he’s watching you. He’s someone who just loves actors and loves making movies.”
