Under the direction of Camille de Castelnau, who notably worked on the scripts of the Bureau des Légendes and Drôle, Tout va bien is carried by a gallery of characters that portray the Wasser family.
Virginie Efira, who won the 2023 Best Actress César this year for Revoir Paris, will step into the shoes of Claire, the eldest of the siblings. Her little sister Marion is played by Sara Giraudeau aka Marina Loizaw in the hit series The Office of Legends, while the youngest is played by Alyocha Schneider, who was recently seen in the Prime Video series Salade Grecque.
Nicole Garcia (Lupin) and Bernard Le Coq (The Beautiful Family) play the role of the parents. The cast includes Yannick Landrain (Dr. Martin), Mehdi Nebibu (Commander Karadek at HPI) and Eduardo Noriega (Translators).
Camille de Castelnau is accompanied on writing by Gael Bélan (Engrenages, Le Bureau des Légendes), Benjamin Adam (L’Opera, Paris Police 1900) and Christophe Régin (La Surface de Réparation).
The first two episodes are directed by Eric Roshant, known for his work on Le Bureau des Légendes. The following shots were prepared by Xavier Legrand (Juqu’à la garde), Cathy Verne (Vernom Subutex) and Audrey Estrougo (Suprêmes).
Is it worth checking out?
If family series are commonplace in France, few of them are included in the register of dramatic comedy. With Tout va bien, Camille de Castelnau, who worked on the scripts for the Bureau of Legends, takes inspiration from her own history and paints a portrait of a family unlike any other, which, deep down, is very ordinary.
A family that has to deal with a child’s illness with a life-threatening prognosis. Each member reacts to this tragedy in his own way. Enter the mother who repeats it”Everything is fine”, a girl who lives in complete denial in the face of her son’s cancer and a sister who does not think the worst, Camille de Castelnau offers us a gallery of characters far from the clichés of the genre.
In Tout va bien, the members of the Vasseur family are not perfect. They have their own problems, their own lives, and none of them being sick will prevent problems from arising. If in the first episodes we find it difficult to get attached to the characters, who at first seem individualistic and self-centered, we quickly realize that their reactions, sometimes surprising, are actually a way to cope with the drama.
We slowly learn about their love, culminating in the last two episodes, which will probably bring a few tears to your eyes. Si Tout va bien is a drama series, Camille de Castelnau, thanks to her intelligent writing, manages to feel good with a small touch of humor that softens the theme and defuses the tragic situations.
If the series shines with its scripts, the casting is certainly not left out. Virginie Efira, who recently won a César for Best Actress, once again proves her talent as an actress. On the other hand, Sarah Giraud, who the audience knows best as Marina Loizaot in Le Bureau des Légendes, touches the skin of this mother who tries her best to stay above water.
She does everything to minimize her daughter’s illness, but very soon the tragedy will overtake her, offering the actress powerful scenes that will not leave her indifferent.
