The Crown Season 6: How Netflix Handled Diana’s Accident Scene

The first episode of the final season of The Crown, available this morning, is entirely devoted to the romance between Diana (Elizabeth Debic) and Dodi Al Fayed (Khalid Abdallah) and the tragic accident that claimed their lives.

We can imagine all the questions that the writers, producers and directors asked about whether or not to film the car accident on the Alma bridge in Paris. The episode’s director, who remembers Princess Diana’s death 26 years ago, talks about the considerations that go into the tactical handling of the event.

The director returns to the fact that the crash in which Henri Paul was driving the Mercedes-Benz driven by Diana, Dodi Al Fayed and security consultant Trevor Rhys-Jones was not shown on screen:

The producer had access to much of the surveillance cameras on the night of the tragedy at the Ritz Hotel in Paris, where Diana and Dodd dined that evening. “We were able to make our own observations of Dodd and Diana’s physical appearanceShvokhov says.

“We could not hear anything, but we could see how they were touching each other, how they were laughing. And even though we knew she was crying in the restaurant, we were really looking to see how comfortable they were and how comfortable she was.“.
