After canceling the $70 million film, Warner is admitting its mistake

After Batgirl and the animated Scooby-Doo sequel were both canceled in full post-production in August 2022, Warner has made a new victim: Coyote vs. Acme by Dave Green.

The project, which features the famous Looney Tunes character, had a budget of $70 million and was put on hold due to tax deductions. Thus, $30 million could be saved.

Problem: The movie is almost finished. Everything was filmed, special effects were completed and even the music composition was recorded.

Worn, among others, by John Cena, Coyote vs. Acme is therefore condemned to gather dust in Warner’s drawers. It is said. This decision, which was too violent for the team, created a movement of anger, even stronger than for Batgirl.

Many players in the sector – screenwriters, directors, producers – threatened the studio that they will no longer work with them. And for good reason, even meetings were canceled after this event.

To drive the point home, Coyote Vs. Acme has been shown at various test screenings and feedback has been positive, with some even speaking of “The best version of Looney Tunes on the big screen“.

On social media, some filmmakers like Christopher Miller – to whom we owe The Lego Movie – spoke: “I saw coyote vs. Acme and it’s awesome. Funny, charming, good comedic timing, with a lot of heart. I hope more studios start working on it so the world can see all the good work people are doing.”

He didn’t think he was saying it that well. After much backlash and a rather violent backlash, Warner appears to be backing down. The studio should allow the producers and director Dave Green to sell their film to other studios.

According to Deadline, Apple, Amazon and Netflix platforms are already interested in buying the film. To be continued.
