The Max platform (HBO Max in Brazil) has ordered the fifth season of “Harley Quinn”, an adult animated series centered on the DC character Harley Quinn. The renewal was made official two months after the end of the 4th season.
“We’re thrilled that news about Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy’s continuing misadventures is finally out, so we can stop telling people about them in secret,” executive producers Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker and Dean Lorey said in a statement. “We must have distributed at least three thousand NDAs at this point. It was a huge waste of paper.”
Suzanna Makkos, executive vice president of original comedy and adult animation at Max and Adult Swim, celebrated the renewal more seriously. “The talented ‘Harley Quinn’ team has once again managed to deliver a season that builds on everything that has come before, yet feels fresh and inventive at the same time. They continue to deliver hilarious, heartwarming and disturbing stories with the our lovable group of DC misfits, and we couldn’t be more excited for fans to see what they’ve accomplished in season five.”
Season four saw Harley Quinn in an identity crisis, after she joined the heroes of Gotham City and was left with doubts about her true place.
The series is the creation of Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker and Dean Lorey, producers of the underrated DC comedy “Powerless,” and the voice cast includes Kaley Cuoco (Penny from “Big Bang Theory”) as the titular anti-heroine, Lake Bell (“Bless This Mess”) as the voice of Poison Ivy, Alan Tudyk (“Doom Patrol”) as the Joker and Clayface, Jim Rash (“Community”) as the Riddler, Ron Funches (“12”) as King Shark, Diedrich Bader (“Veep”) as Batman, Sanaa Lathan (“Alien vs. Predator”) as Catwoman and Wayne Knight (Newman from “Seinfeld”) as the Penguin.
