The agency issued a warning regarding the arrival of a cold front in the state. Storms in recent weeks have left a trail of damage across the capital and metropolitan region
A Civil protection In St. Paul issued a warning about the possibility of gusts of wind which could reach 100 km/h between Friday 17th and Sunday 19th. The forecast is from the Emergency Management Center (CGE) based on the cold front that will arrive in the State.
According to the CGE, wind gusts are expected to vary between 60 and 80 km/h, but, in case of rain, they could reach 100 km/h. Climatempo warns of the same risk, in addition to the possibility of lightning and hail.
Guidelines for civil protection:
1- Avoid wooded areas during thunderstorms, due to the risk of trees falling.
2- When you identify signs of intense wind, seek shelter in safe places, away from structures susceptible to damage, such as poles, trees or electrical cables.

Due to the warnings, the Department of Waterways (DH) has strengthened guidelines for coastal ferry users to monitor the transportation situation in the coming days. In addition to the website itself, a DH application allows the user to monitor weather conditions and crossing times on different lines. There is no forecast yet regarding a possible suspension of the service.
Wind can also bring new disruptions to energy supplies. Last week, many residents of Sao Paulo spent nearly a week without electricity after a storm hit the capital. The supply problem was repeated in some neighborhoods following the storm recorded on the night of Wednesday 15th..
The gusts of wind mark the change in weather that Sao Paulo is expected to experience starting this Friday. After recording some of the highest temperatures in history this week – and with the possibility of a record in the capital this Thursday – maximum temperatures will fall in the coming days.
The municipality says it will take measures
In a statement, the City of Sao Paulo said it had invested in “fundamental actions to mitigate the effects of rain in the capital.” “In addition to the actions, the municipal management has also strengthened the work of the Fire Brigade, with the donation made this week of two trucks equipped with hydraulic ladders with baskets so that professionals can reach up to 14 meters, and with 360º rotation. Each vehicle cost R$800,000.”
The municipal management also specified that, in 2023, through the Municipal Secretariat of Infrastructure and Urban Works (SIURB), “it committed 1.25 billion real reais for drainage works throughout the municipality”.
“The Municipal Civil Protection works day after day in prevention situations and emergency calls. All actions aim to reduce negative impacts and optimize the response to incidents. When responding to incidents, when they occur, it carries out risk identification and directs cases to the authorities of the region The sector of the subprefecture and contacts other entities for necessary measures, such as the fire brigade, the municipal secretariat for social welfare and development, the municipal secretariat of health, among others”, the Prefecture underlined.
Management emphasized that it has a predictive system that optimizes field actions in advance and assertively. “The system can inform about the probability of rain and the place where it will occur. There are several warnings issued in advance on the 24th, 12th, 6th, 2nd and up to an hour before the fact. The integration of the data with the tools put available from the municipal administration and AI-based analytics, is able to assertively control the city’s flood containment equipment and macro- and micro-drainage system.”
