Conmebol has decided to open a lawsuit against Fluminense after clashes between Rio and Boca Juniors fans. After all, Tricolores and Xeneizes clashed in the streets of Rio de Janeiro, just days before the Libertadores final on April 11th. Copacabana beach, in fact, has become one of the hotbeds of violence in the city. The Argentine club reported the episode to the body.
The Argentinians’ complaint is due to fights that occurred at three different times: October 30th, November 2nd and also on the day of the decision. The first two allude to the confusion especially in the southern area of the capital. On the other hand, the biggest problems shortly before the ball rolled at the Maracanã occurred around the stadium, as well as in the subway.
Therefore, Fluminense has until 6pm on the 21st of this month to send a response to Conmebol, expressing its opinion and defense on the matter. In the event of a sanction, the sanctions provided may vary between a warning, a reprimand, a fine, the return of prizes, the forfeiture of the title or the provision of community services. However, it is not yet possible to predict when the Confederation’s ruling will be issued.
After the clashes, the Tricolor Council issued an official note calling for an end to the violence in the city. He also met with representatives of peacekeeping organizations on the streets of Rio.
