Brazil represented very well in the Australian Open Junior Series South America, at the Rio Tennis Academy, in Rio de Janeiro. This Saturday (18), in the 100% national final, Nicolas Oliveira of Rio and Carolina Bohrer Martins of Santa Catarina were champions of the tournament and guaranteed a place in the main draw of the Australian Open Junior 2024, with all expenses paid ( transportation and accommodation).

In the men’s group, the final was between Oliveira and Gustavo Almeida of Paraná, who felt ill due to the strong heat and was forced to abandon the match when he was looking for an equalizer in the second set – 6/2 4/5 rét.

“I knew it would be a very tough match, Gustavo worked very hard, plays very well and the heat was not easy for either of us. My fight was very good, I left Australia”, said the carioca , who last Last year he was champion of the AO Junior Series Brazil and competed in the Grand Slam round for the first time.

In the women’s final, Carolina beat Pietra Rivoli, of Rio Grande do Sul, 6/4 6/1.

“I felt good, concentrated, knowing that, if I wanted to win, I would have to fight until the last point. And that’s exactly what I did. My dream came true today”, commented the Catarina native.

For André Sá, tournament director, the objective was achieved. “Great week of tennis, with several players from different countries in South America. I was very happy with the level of tennis presented and we want this event to be traditional in South American tennis, having this AO Junior Series South America here every year in South America “he stressed.

The AO Junior Series South America brought together 48 athletes from South America, born since 2006, throughout the week, 24 boys and 24 girls.
