According to Senacon secretary Wadih Damous, emergency measures are essential to preserve and guarantee the health, safety and physical integrity of people attending shows nationwide
The National Consumer Secretariat, of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (Senacon/MJSP), published, this Saturday (18), an ordinance establishing strategies aimed at protecting the health of consumers during major events, in periods of high temperature. The Secretariat has also created a specific reporting channel for the public present at the singer’s show Taylor Swift.
The initiative was born in response to the episode that occurred last Friday (17th) following complaints about the lack of water for consumption in the Nilton Santos stadium, Engenhão, in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), on the occasion of the North American singer’s concert. The show received an audience of about 60 thousand people. At the event, the death of a young woman following a cardiopulmonary arrest was confirmed.
According to Senacon Secretary Wadih Damous, emergency measures are essential to preserve and ensure the health, safety and physical integrity of people attending shows nationwide.
“The Senacon acts to ensure respect for the dignity, health and safety of consumers. Rights that were clearly ignored on Friday evening, during the Taylor Swift concert. Considering, among other things, that this show receives, in the majority, an audience of young people, children and adolescents”, the secretary underlined.
Planned actions
Since the publication of the Ordinance, it is established that companies responsible for the production of events must guarantee free access to bottles for personal use, containing water to be consumed during the event, and must provide drinking fountains or distribute packages with water suitable for consumption, through installation of “hydration islands” easily accessible to all, in any case, without additional costs for the consumer.
The organizers will also have to guarantee the necessary structure for the rescue of the participants. It will be up to the state and municipal bodies that defend the interests and rights of consumers to monitor the prices of mineral water sold, in order to prevent abusive increases and excessive burdens on consumers.
The document also informs that publications of the new actions will have to be published on the website of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) for the shows taking place this Saturday (18th) and Sunday (19th). It should also be noted that the company producing the event will be notified by Senacon, in order to avoid damage that is difficult or impossible to repair.
