The new Hunger Games is leading the box office in Brazil

Almost a week after its arrival in Brazilian cinemas, The Hunger Games: Song of Birds and Serpents is showing strength at the box office. According to Comscore data, the prequel film had a good debut in Brazil, establishing itself in first place with grosses of R$9.9 million.

Produced by a team of veterans of Hunger Games, The song of birds and snakes is set 64 years before the original film, released in 2012: these are the so-called dark ages. The film introduces the young version of the feared President Snow, known at the time only as Corialanus Snow, revealing not only his past, but the circumstances that led to his rise to power.

The film also shows the character’s relationship with Lucy Gray (Rachel Zegler). Snow was played by veteran Donald Sutherland in the original films, the younger version of him is played by Tom Blyth. Watch the trailer here!

The glorious cast of The song of birds and snakes also includes Viola Davis as Dr. Volumnia Gaul, the story’s main villain, as well as Peter Dinklage (game of Thrones) and Hunter Schaefer (Euphoria).

The franchise Hunger Games faces a dystopian future in which the United States is called Panem and every year a boy and a girl from each district of the country must participate in the Hunger Games, a televised competition in which young people fight for survival until only one champion remains.
