The actress and writer Anna Kanakis, former Miss Italy, died this Monday (20th) at the age of 61.

The funeral will take place in Rome on November 23, at the church of San Salvatore in Lauro.

Born in Messina to a Greek father and Sicilian mother, Kanakis was just 15 years old when she was elected Miss Italy in Sant’Eufemia d’Aspromonte, becoming the first queen so young after a change in regulations. In 1981 she participated in the Miss Universe competition.

Brunette, elegant, Mediterranean, with beautiful golden eyes, Kanakis began her career as a model and, on the advice of Giuseppe Tornatore, began acting as an actress.

In the 1980s he participated in more than 30 films and TV series. Initially he acted in numerous brilliant comedies directed by Castellano and Pipolo and Sergio Martino in “Attila, flagello di Dio” (1982), “Occhio, malocchio, parzzemolo e finacchio” (1983), “Acapulco, first beach… a sinister” (1983).

But with Luigi Magni, in 1989, he made his film debut playing the exuberant role “The King”, with Giancarlo Giannini and Ornella Muti, followed in the same year by “The Miser” by Molière, directed by Tonino Cervi and with Alberto Deaf.

Since the end of the 1980s, Kanakis has been the protagonist of television programs such as “Michelangelo”, directed by Jerry London, “Vento di Ponente” (2002), “L’Inchiesta” (2006) by Giulio Base and, finally, “La Third Truth” (2007) directed by Stefano Reali.

After a short period in politics as national head of Culture and Entertainment, she began a second life as a writer.

In 2010 he made his debut with the novel “You are so mine When you sleep.

In 2011 her second novel “Goebbels’ Lover” was released (Marsilio Editori), on the story of Lída Baarová, a Czech actress who was the lover of the Nazi leader in 1938.

His latest work is from 2022: “Don’t judge me” (Baldini and Castoldi), another historical novel, this time about Baron Jacques d’Adelsward Fersen.

After a first marriage at a very young age with the musician Claudio Simonetti, from whom she divorced a few years later, she married for the second time in 2004 with the Venetian Marco Merati Foscarini.
