30 years after its theatrical release, Les Nerfs à vive is soon to return to television as a series. According to the information DeadlineMartin Scorsese is working on a new iteration of the famous thriller, following the 1991 version, which was itself a remake of Jack Lee Thompson’s 1962 thriller.
Scorsese will return behind the scenes alongside Steven Spielberg as an executive producer, marking the two directors’ first collaboration on a television project. Nick Antoska, creator and screenwriter of The Act, will serve as showrunner.
Described as an unconventional approach to the novel Butchers John D. Macdonald (1957) and adapted from his various films, the series will be a contemporary thriller that explores Americans’ obsession with news in the 21st century.
This 2023 version of Cape Fear is set to introduce two new characters. pitch: “Several lawyers face a storm when a killer from their past is released after years in prison..”
Longtime friends Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese have a long history with Jerky. The 1991 remake was originally supposed to be directed by Spielberg. Considering the film to be too violent, he decided to work on Schindler’s List anyway and convinced Martin Scorsese to take his place. Steven Spielberg was also retained as a producer on the film.
Now an essential work in Martin Scorsese’s filmography, Nerves, which offered Robert De Niro one of his most terrifying roles, could have taken a very different form if Spielberg had decided to stay with the project.
As of now, no channel or platform has been attached to the project, although according to Deadline, a bidding war is underway. The Peacock platform, which recently worked with Nick Antoska, would be interested, as would Apple TV+, which currently has deals with Scorsese, Hulu, Netflix and HBO. To be continued…
