Corinthians prepares to face Bahia this Friday (24th), at 9pm, at the Neo Química Arena, in the 35th round of the Brazilian championship. To confirm their stay in Serie A once and for all, Timão is banking on a positive record played against their rival, at home, in recent years.
After all, Alvinegro has won the last five matches against Bahia, at the Neo Química Arena. During the period 13 goals were scored and five conceded. The matches were valid for the 2017 to 2021 editions of the Brasileirão.
The first victory of this period dates back to June 2017. On that occasion, Alvinegro beat Bahia 3-0, with goals from Jô, Balbuena and Marquinhos Gabriel. The following season, in October, the score was 2-1, with Danilo scoring twice. Clayton scored for Tricolor de Aço.
In 2019, Corinthians and Bahia faced each other at the Neo Química Arena, in September, and São Paulo won 2-1: Vagner Love (from a penalty) and Clayson scored for the hosts. Gilberto, also at maximum risk of penalty, discounted. In 2020, another triumph, this time 3-2: Otero, Roni and Gil found the net for Corinthians, while Nino Paraíba and Matheus Saldanha scored the goals for the Tricolori.
Finally, in 2021, with goals from Róger Guedes, Cantillo and Jô, Corinthians won 3-1, with goals from Gilberto. This was the last match of the teams in Itaquera, since in 2022 the Bahian team was playing in Serie B.
Corinthians haven’t lost at home to Bahia for 15 years
In fact, the last time a duel between the two teams, in Sao Paulo, did not end with a victory for Corinthians occurred in 2014, when Neo Química was opened. At the time the teams were 1-1. Bahia’s last victory, away to Timão, dates back to 2008, 15 years ago.
