House committee approves use of functional address by prosecuted police officers


The bill was approved by the Public Safety Commission; It will now be analyzed by the Constitution and Justice Commission

The Commission for Public Safety and the Fight against Organized Crime Room passed this Tuesday the 21st a bill that allows security officers to do so public security and social defense use the address of the service unit where they are or have been involved in investigations or judicial proceedings relating to the functional activity.

According to the text, written by the deputy Captain Augustus (PL-SP), the initiative aims to “safeguard the life and physical integrity of public security and social defense agents, as well as their families”. Today, agents use home addresses in trials.

For the author of the bill, the measure aims to contribute to safeguarding the rights and ensuring the safety of security agents. “By allowing these noble professionals to use the address of their last service unit for the purposes of investigations or legal proceedings relating to their functional activity, we offer a measure of support and protection for those who dedicate or have dedicated their lives to the protection of society”, we read in the justification of the text.

The deputy Colonel Ulysses (União-AC), rapporteur of the project at the commission, said that the measure protects police officers, firefighters and traffic officers, among other categories, and their families.

Now the initiative will be analyzed conclusively by the Constitution, Justice and Citizenship (CCJ) Commission of the Chamber. In other words, the project is analyzed only by the commissions appointed to analyze it, eliminating the need to deliberate in plenary.
