Palmeiras tries to convince Zenit to involve Claudinho in negotiations for Artur

Leader of the Brazilian championship, Palmeiras is already thinking about putting together the squad for 2024. And a name that the club was interested in in the past is back on Alviverde’s radar. This is Claudinho, from Zenit (RUS). And to facilitate a possible negotiation, the Verdão board is studying the possibility of involving the attacker Artur, who led the negotiations to defend the Russians.

According to Play10Zenit are clamoring to get rid of Claudinho, who welcomes his return to Brazilian football. The St. Petersburg team wants 25 million euros (R$ 133 million at current prices), a figure that is out of the question for the moment at Palmeiras. In this way the inclusion of Artur would amortise part of the figure.

The Russians made a higher offer than the 8 million (R$ 45 million at the time) paid for Artur, who arrived at Palmeiras at the beginning of the season. Starter at the beginning of the year, the striker lost space in the second half. OR J10 I also learned that the athlete has disagreements within the team, which also make the former Red Bull Bragantino player fondly think of going to Eastern Europe.

If the negotiation were to be concluded, Claudinho would arrive to fill the void left by Gustavo Scarpa. Raphael Veiga is currently the only midfielder in the squad and the Zenit athlete would share this responsibility.

old relationship

It’s nothing new that Palmeiras likes Claudinho. President of Verdão from 2017 to 2021, Mauricio Galiotte was a great admirer of the athlete and tried to bring him to the club after distinguishing himself at Red Bull Bragantino. In 2021, however, Bragança Paulista sold him to Zenit for 15 million euros (R$ 92 million at the price at the time).

In the middle of this year, Zenit president Alexandre Medvedev asked for 20 million euros (around 105 million) to release the player from the contract renewed until 2027. At the time, Flamengo were the closest to signing Claudinho. The athlete, however, remained in Russia.
