Tribute to Selton Mello’s 40-year career begins this Friday (24)

Programming is promoted by MUBI and, in six films, showcases the artist’s acting, directing, scripting and dubbing talents

MUBI is promoting, starting this Friday, November 24th, a special to celebrate 40 years of the career of Selton Mello as an actor, director, screenwriter and voice actor through six films, which reach the streaming platform’s catalog for programming Selton Mello: 40 years of Cinema.

The productions explore the works of Selton Mello in acting – Archaic Farming (2001), The Smell of the Drain (2006) and The Mouse Weed (2008) -, in the direction – Merry Christmas (2008) and The clown (2011) -, and in dubbing – A Story of Love and Fury (2013). Check out the synopses below:

Lavoura Arcaica (2001)

In São Paulo in the 1940s, Pedro (Leonardo Medeiros, Blind goat) is tasked with bringing back his brother Andrew (Selton Mello), who moved away from his family because he had a domineering father (Raul Cortez, The Case of the Naves Brothers), an overly affectionate mother (Juliana Carneiro da Cunha, Ebb) and the jealousy of Pedro in relation to his father’s favoritism. The Smell of the Drain (2006)

Directed by Heitor Dhaliathis dark comedy tells the story of Lourenço (Selton Mello), owner of a pawn shop who buys used objects from desperate residents, whether for his perverse power games or for his own livelihood. However, he loses control of his life when he meets a waitress (Paula Braun, Life of a Clerk) and the smell of his store drain.

The Mouse Weed (2008)

As he seeks the resurrection of his beloved, Janaína (Camila Pitanga, Basic Sanitation – The Movie), it goes through battles between Tupinambás and Tupiniquins, before the Portuguese arrived in the country, through resistance to the military dictatorship until the war for water in 2096.
