‘It’s Not What I Expected’: Will One of the Greatest Sci-Fi Sagas Get a Surprising Next Movie?

His return last April was one of the surprises of Star Wars Celebration. A new film starring Daisy Ridley has been announced. Untitled, but with a director (Sharmaine Obaid-Chinoy, who notably worked on Ms. Marvel) and the promise that events will take place after The Rise of Skywalker, with Rey building a new Jedi order.

The writers’ and actors’ strike has since ended, and similar projects have been blocked for several months. And while the actor is showing his usual enthusiasm for the project, he admits he doesn’t know where he stands right now.

“This story is really cool”– he says on the microphone Collider. “I’m waiting to read the script, because obviously I don’t have any more news. It’s not what I expected, but I’m impatient. I know the plot of the movie. I won’t say that’s all. It is, but that’s all I’ve been told so far. And I think that will be the next movie.”

From the creator of Peaky Blinders

“Once the strike is over, I don’t know how quickly things will pick up. But now I know the story of the movie, and I think people will be excited.” Like anyone involved in promos, even if the project is only in its early stages, Daisy Ridley clearly wasn’t going to say anything bad about the upcoming feature film.

But he admits that the one he was commissioned to write by Peaky Blinders creator Stephen Knight probably hasn’t made much progress lately. And we’ll have to wait until we have real information on it, with a French release slated for May 20, 2026.
