Netflix: After Jenna Ortega and Samara Weaving, Who’s the New Queen of Horror for The Babysitter 3 Movie?

It’s not uncommon for movies to experience unexpected success, especially across platforms. Netflix subscribers sometimes praise feature films that might not have been popular on the big screen, especially when it’s a horror-comedy for teenagers.

This is the case of The Babysitter, released in 2017 and directed by McG (Charlie’s Angels). This bloody and gory B-movie tells the story of a twelve-year-old trying to escape from his nanny, the leader of a satanic sect who wants to kill him.

With a certified 71% on Rotten Tomatoes, The Babysitter was instrumental in launching Samara Weaving, who would go on to become the Queen of Horror. Then the Australian actor starred in the films Wedding Nightmare and Scream 6.

Following the success of The Babysitter, Netflix greenlit a sequel titled The Babysitter: Killer Queen, which marked the return of Samara Weaving but also allowed Jenna Ortega to confirm her status as the Queen of Horror.

The young woman, who was already seen in Insidious: Chapter 2, then joined the Scream franchise, which she recently left, and donned the Wednesday Addams costume for her own series.

The Babysitter: Killer Queen, released in 2020, was also well received by subscribers, giving McG ideas for a third installment. With no news since then, the director recently confirmed that the project is still in development ComicBook :

“We’re still talking about it. It was fun. The first movie obviously introduced Samara Weaving to the world, and the second movie introduced Jenna Ortega. Hopefully we can answer the call and find a third star who can reach them. Peaks.”

All that’s missing is a full green light from Netflix, and the project could begin the search for a new “scream queen.”
