This is a must-see movie for early 2024 on Netflix, and it promises to make your blood run cold. For his return to feature films, after the episodes of the TV series Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Juan Antonio Bayona decided to film a terrifying true story.
The Spanish director, to whom we owe “The Orphanage” and “The Impossible”, adapts the extraordinary fate of the survivors of a 1972 plane crash in the Andes mountains into the film “Snow Circle”.
Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 was carrying a rugby team to Chile when the plane crashed into a glacier in the heart of the Andes. Only 29 of the 45 passengers survived the accident. To survive in one of the world’s most hostile environments, they have no choice but to make extreme decisions.
Two months after the incident, rescuers managed to recover 16 survivors in an Andean miracle. The snow circle, first of all, immersed the audience in the survival genre with all the trials experienced by the passengers who survived the accident, because not all of them survived.
This mind-blowing true story, which has been brought to the screen several times, most notably in Frank Marshall’s The Survivors, has sparked much media talk about the cannibalism practiced by some survivors. Some survivors actually ate dead passengers to survive.
Netflix has released the official trailer for Juan Antonio Bayona’s new cinematic iteration, which adapts Pablo Vierchi’s book, and the stunning visuals promise a terrifying experience and a visceral immersion into the horrors experienced by these miraculous survivors.
The cast includes Enzo Vogrinic, Matias Recalti, Agustin Pardella, Esteban Cucuricka and Tomas Wolff. Note that “Snow Circle” was chosen to represent Spain at the Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film.
The Snow Circle movie will be available on Netflix on January 4, 2024.
