Director Guy Ritchie, who signed the live-action version of “Aladdin”, will direct a new adaptation of the Disney cartoon: “Hercules”.
The 1997 cartoon distinguished itself from the numerous Greek demigod productions for being a musical, but the names involved in the project suggest the traditional approach, as they are all related to action cinema.
In addition to the director himself, responsible for “Sherlock” and several gangster thrillers, the first draft of the script was written by Dave Callaham (“The Expendables”, “Mortal Kombat”). To top it off, the film counts on the production of Anthony and Joe Russo, directors of “Avengers: Endgame”.
When they first mentioned the project in 2020, the Russo brothers confirmed that while inspired by the original animation, the adaptation would not be a traditional remake. “I think we’re going to do something that has the same feel as the original, inspired by it, but with some new elements.”
There are no further details on the cast or release date yet.
