“Top Gun: Maverick” crossed the $ 800 million mark worldwide, according to a survey by consulting firm Comscore, breaking new records to become the highest grossing in Tom Cruise’s career.

The follow-up to “Top Gun” (1986) was able to easily surpass “Mission: Impossible – The Fallout Effect,” which was the actor’s biggest global hit to date, at $ 791.1 million. Its total is 806.4 million dollars, with 422.2 million dollars won in the national audience up to this Friday (17/6). “Top Gun: Maverick” is currently the highest-grossing film of the year in North America.

Critics loved the film, giving it a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and praising its stunning visuals and artful blend of nostalgia with a story that will satisfy a new generation of viewers.

The success also reinforces the longstanding partnership between Cruise and the Paramount studio, which is also responsible for the “Mission: Impossible” franchise.

In addition to being the actor’s biggest hit worldwide, “Top Gun: Maverick” also earned Tom Cruise the highest grossing in 23 specific markets, including the US, UK, Australia and Brazil. On the other hand, it did not come out in theaters in Russia and China.

The film was directed by Joseph Kosinski, who previously worked with Cruise on “Oblivion” (2013), and this Friday released “Spiderhead” on Netflix, with another “Top Gun: Maverick” actor, Miles Teller.
