HBO Max has released the first image from a new series that will tackle the AIDS epidemic in Brazil. The photo shows actors Bruna Linzmeyer, Ícaro Silva and Johnny Massaro featured as their characters Oxygen masks will (not) fall off automatically.
The series is inspired by true events and follows the story of flight attendants who smuggle AZT into Brazil in the 1980s. The medicine was the only solution for anyone with advanced HIV and at the time Anvisa had not yet authorized its sale in Brazil.
The arrival of the disease in the country generated real terror. In the 1980s, due to a lack of testing, blood from infected donors was transfused into previously HIV-free patients. According to data from the time, blood transfusions were responsible for 15% of the contamination in Brazil.
Infectious diseases doctor Marcia Rachid, author of the book “Manual de HIV/Aids”, contributed to the research work for the production of the series. Recordings have already started in Rio de Janeiro. The information comes from Omelette.
The series of posts on the AIDS epidemic in Brazil revealed its first image which first appeared on Olhar Digital.
