Chelsea ahead
The first half was very good, with Chelsea having less ball possession (always under 40%), but they were dangerous. However, Brighton did not let it go, directing the ball well into their rivals’ area. Despite this, the Blues, with the support of the fans, reach 2-0 in the blink of an eye. They take the lead at 16′. Badiashile attacks and provides the assist for Enzo Fernández’s goal. After almost having widened the score with Jackson and Mudryk, in the 23rd minute, Colwill made it 2-0, with a header that the rival defender saved, but was already inside the goal. However, Brighton continues to play well and closes the gap with a beautiful goal from Buonanotte, on the right, from outside the area, in the 43rd minute.
Fast-paced additions spice up the end game
The second half was more dedicated to studying. In the 20th minute, however, Milner scored a penalty on Mudryk, which was only confirmed when the referee went to VAR. Enzo Fernández covered and made the score 3 – 1. With the lead, Chelsea continued their cautious play, closing the spaces. But in the last ten minutes they found themselves under intense pressure. And it was precisely in injury time that João Pedro (formerly Fluminense and Brazilian national team) took a corner from the left and scored a beautiful goal. This woke up Brighton even more, and they did not let go of the attack. Thus, he forced goalkeeper Sánchez to make a series of great saves.
The match had 14 minutes of added time and, in the 55th minute of the second half, Brighton attacked from the right. The cross hit Caicedo’s arm. The referee went to VAR, but did not award a penalty. Brighton thus ended the match with 67% of ball possession and 18 shots against their rival’s 8. However, relief for Chelsea, who won three points which give them breathing space in the standings.
