The 2021 crossover “Godzilla vs. Kong,” will have an exciting (and surprising) sequel for fans of the iconic giant monsters. Now, in a surprising twist, these two titans will not return to their separate paths, but will instead team up as allies in “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” marking a new phase in the saga due for release in 2024.
Journalist Ana Luiza Figueiredo, from , is following the Comic Con Experience – Sao Paulo 2023 (CCXP23). During the event the official trailer of the new film was presented and director Adam Wingard even sent a message to the fans present: “One of my favorite locations of the film was in Rio”.

After the events of the last film, the plot unfolds with Godzilla and Kong teaming up to face a new and mysterious enemy: a giant gorilla that threatens humanity. Since we last saw them, both monsters have undergone significant transformations: Godzilla has acquired a new pink form, while Kong has established himself as ruler of the Hollow Earth, wielding an ax and finding a son.
Adam Wingard, director of the film and responsible for “Godzilla vs. Kong”, in interview with IGNstressed the importance of exploring the “pure imagination” of the plot and allowing the monsters to be more than just props, having extended sequences, around eight minutes in total, in which they act independently of humans.
Furthermore, Wingard highlighted the evolution in the portrayal of monsters, allowing them to tell their narrative visually and non-verbally. As for quickly reuniting monsters in cinema, he says keeping Godzilla and Kong together is exciting and essential to the continuity of their relationship. “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” will be released in theaters on April 12, 2024.
Dune 2 and the new Aquaman are also highlights
At the same CCXP panel where the official trailer for “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” was presented, Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh and Austin Butler exclusively presented the first 10 minutes of the new film “Dune: Part Two ”.
Finally, actors Jason Momoa, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Patrick Wilson took to the stage, together with director James Wan, to present the details of the new feature film Aquaman 2.
