In 1843, Grace Marks, a young Irish immigrant working as a servant in Canada, was convicted of murdering her employers, Thomas Kinnear and Nancy Montgomery.

Dr. Simon Jordan is hired to assess the mental state of the now-famous killer: many of his supporters hope that he will be exonerated thanks to the psychiatrist’s report. Imprisoned for 15 years, Grace has no memory of the murders. While talking to Jordan, he reminisces about his journey, using the murders, his trial and conviction.

After the needlework tale and Wandering Venda, prisoner is the third television adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s work: here Nickname GraceAn award-winning historical and psychological fiction novel based on a true story, published in 1996.

In just six episodes, prisoner Absolutely captivates and overwhelms. After its first two episodes premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017, the show made its television debut on CBC before streaming on Netflix.

Sarah Gadon in “Captive” (2017)

The show has a main character who is as charming as she is chilled, played by the beautiful and intense Sarah Gadon, who never ceases to amaze us, opposite the equally fair and considerate Edward Holcroft. In the cast of the series you can also find David Cronenberg (yes, yes, the famous director of The Fly, last seen in front of the camera in 2010) Rebecca Liddiard, Zachary Levy and even Anna Paquin.

prisoner, this is one of those mini-series that completely engrosses the viewer that they will not let go before the end: knowing the truth about Grace becomes a real necessity and you will not see the time. In other words, you’re dealing with a small screen pearl, both beautiful and gloomy, that we absolutely recommend and that will haunt you until its (crazy) conclusion.
