China says Boeing is welcome to deepen development in the country’s market

The deputy director of China’s aviation regulator told a Boeing executive in Beijing on Friday that the plane maker is welcome to deepen its development in the Chinese market.

Boeing was invited to continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the regulatory body and the aviation industry in China, Hu Zhenjiang of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) said in a meeting with Mike Fleming, senior vice president of Boeing for development programs and Customer Service.

The meeting came as China was considering resuming purchases of 737 Max planes for Chinese airlines, more than four years after they were halted following two deadly crashes.

Hu said China’s civil aviation and Boeing have 50 years of “friendly exchanges and cooperation” and that the two sides have established a “close” working relationship in a number of fields.

“In the future, China’s aviation market has broad development prospects, and the size of China’s civil aviation fleet will continue to grow rapidly,” he said.

Fleming told Hu that Boeing attaches great importance to the Chinese market and remains optimistic about the company’s future development, according to the CAAC statement.

Boeing is willing to “actively deepen cooperation with China, work together to promote the development of the aviation industry, and continue to provide better products for the benefit of the Chinese people, the United States and the world,” Fleming said.

China and the United States are pushing for a substantial increase in flights between the two countries as their relations showed signs of easing after months of tensions.
