Migration: Who are the French voices in animated films?

What is it about? The Colvert family is in a domestic dilemma. While Mac is perfectly content to hang out with his family, peacefully and forever, in their small New England pond, his wife Pam is more the type to shake up the routine a bit to show her children the rest of the world – Dax is no longer a duckling and her Little sister Gwen. When they are greeted by a family of migrating ducks during a stopover, it’s the perfect opportunity for Pam to convince Mac to follow suit and embark on a family road trip: destination Jamaica, via New York. As they fly to the sun for the winter, the mallard’s well-laid plan quickly unravels. But a chaotic and unexpected turn of events will change them forever and teach them more than they could have imagined.

The unexpected meeting of “Despicable Me” and “Ernest and Celestine”.

Migration is the new feature film from Illumination, the studio behind Minions, Despicable Me, Like Beasts and All On Stage. Having become one of the leaders in the animated film industry, the company has nothing more to prove given the success of the above films. They entrusted the production of The Migration to the Frenchman Benjamin Renner, to whom we owe Ernest and Celestine and The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales.

Thus, he was able to add an impressionistic note that was completely new to the studio’s output until now, as Chris Meledandri, Illumination’s founder and CEO, explains: “He can express very poignant moments in a unique way that is both funny and intelligent. His work is visually stunning, but most importantly, his characters are very sweet in nature, and in the case of this film, they allow us to discover the fascinating world of these migratory waterfowl, mallards.”

For the first time in the United States

Migration is Benjamin Renner’s first feature film for a major American studio, and his first meeting with Chris Meledandri, Illumination’s founder and CEO, was a mixture of excitement and nervousness.

He recalls: “Before meeting Chris, I felt that I had to play the role and be the confident director that Hollywood expected. But to my surprise, Chris and I immediately connected on a deep level, we began to discuss common emotions and experiences. And in that moment I felt a deep sense of trust. Working with Chris was an exciting prospect and It turned into a vision. A shared desire to have fun while making this film. What attracted me to the project was that we were talking about very specific things.”

From the creator of White Lotus

The script of the film is written by Benjamin Renner and Mike White. The latter notably wrote episodes of Dawson and Freaks & Geeks, the comedies Rock Academy and Pitch Perfect 3. But he is best known as the creator and writer of the hit series The White Lotus, which won multiple Emmy Awards. and the Golden Globes.

A family story

The character of Gwen, the youngest in the family, is voiced by Tracey Gazal in the original version, for whom this is her first cinematic experience. She is the daughter of Migration editor Christian Gazal, who says: “We needed a temporary voice for the character for the first time, and the advantage of using my daughter quickly became apparent. We were able to record it often and freely, which made his interpretation more consistent and allowed us to use it as the film developed. We recorded it at home in our bedroom with a portable microphone. His availability to record made it possible to simply hone his performance, unlike other actors who come to limited sessions.”

The Migration, by Benjamin Renner and Gil Holmes, is in theaters from December 6.
