Arguably one of Clint Eastwood’s most underrated works, In Perfect World has many great scenes, but there is one that is absolutely shocking. This tear-jerking sequence is at the end of the road movie.

At the conclusion of A Perfect World, Butch, already badly injured, is shot at point blank range by a police officer, even though Red Garnett did not order him to shoot. Lying on the ground, Kevin Costner’s dying character talks to little Buzz, with whom he has formed a moving father-son relationship. “They got shot twice in one day…”He whispers to her.

Butch then dies in front of this little boy that he first kidnapped before he liked him. Augmented by the sublime music of Lenny Niehaus, the scene is truly thrilling. Find it below.

The poignant A Perfect World is a work you will quickly (re)discover. The film, which allows us to discover Kevin Costner in an unlikely role after Wolves, Robin Hood, JFK and The Guardian, was a great public success with more than 3.1 million viewers in French cinemas.
