In addition to Endrick of Palmeiras, Vitor Roque, leaving Atletico Paranaense, and Sávio, striker of Girona, are the Brazilian candidates
The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) announced on Monday (11) the candidates for the award as the best young player in the world in 2023. And Brazilian football will have three representatives. They are all forwards: Endrick, from Palmeiras, Vitor Roque, who played in the Brasileirão with Atletico Paranaense, but has now been sold to Barcelona, and Sávio, from Girona, in Spain.
The award, aimed at players born after 2003, also includes other internationally renowned players. Among them is the favorite Jude Bellingham, Englishman from Real Madrid, as well as the Argentinean Alejandro Garnacho, Manchester United’s star player in the first half of the European season. Among the competitors there is also the Spaniard Gavi, from Barcelona, who, in fact, is a future teammate of Vitor Roque.
In a way, all three Brazilian candidates have a foot in Spanish football. While Sávio has been at Girona since 2022, Vitor Roque will arrive in Catalonia in January. On the other hand, Endrick will only arrive at Real Madrid in June next year. The three will still face each other in the second round of the Spanish Championship, with Girona leading.
Sports journalists and experts from more than 120 countries will choose from 25 players to elect this year’s best young player on the planet. Therefore the institution undertakes to publish the results by December 25th.
