While South Korean series are enjoying unprecedented popularity, boosted by this year’s successes The Glory and The Hunt in Blood, one sub-genre seems to be particularly pleasing to Netflix subscribers: zombie series.
The success of two seasons of The Kingdom highlighted the interest of the platform’s subscribers in horror productions from South Korea. The series is also among the highest rated on Netflix, with a rating of 4.2 out of 5 (a higher average than Squid Game’s “only” rated 4 out of 5).
A few years later, another series of zombies left its mark. While Kindgom was set in a bygone era, All of Us are Dead was set in the present day, at a high school.
The next hit on Netflix?
Mixing the codes of teenage series with horror series, this program did not appeal to Internet users as much as Kingdom (average rating of 3.8 out of 5), but its success allowed it to be renewed by Netflix for a 2nd season. (At the moment, the date of transmission is not known).
This Tuesday, December 12th marks the arrival of a new Korean zombie series on the platform called Happiness. In a building where residents of different social classes live together, a virus that turns the infected into the living dead sows panic.
Many Netflix subscribers may be wondering if this new series has anything to do with Kingdom or are we all dead? But although Happiness also belongs to the category of zombie series, this program is not a spin-off or any derivative product, but a completely independent series.
Broadcast in 2021 on Korean television, where it enjoyed success with audiences, the series is now subject to international scrutiny through its arrival on Netflix. What if the platform has another hit there? There is no doubt that this new production will not leave K-drama fans indifferent…
You don’t need to own any series to watch Happy, which is now only available on Netflix.
