“I Had to Fight”: Alan Ritchson almost didn’t get the role of Reacher

Although he was born to play Jack Reacher, Alan Ritchson didn’t land the role in the Prime Video series so easily. In Reacher, the TV series adapted from Lee Child’s novels, Alan Ritchson plays this iconic character known for his extraordinary build, fighting skills, investigative skills and deadpan sense of humor. If today everyone agrees that Alan Ritchson is perfect in this role, it almost didn’t happen. And this, for a very specific reason.

While participating in the podcast Inside You with Michael Rosenbaum – Ahead of the start of the second season, which airs this Friday – the actor explained that he almost did not get the role of Jack Reacher. And he talks about how this role has given him a new lease of life in his career.

I really fought for Reacher. It took me months and months to convince everyone that I was the one. You know, they didn’t accept me the first time. At the beginning of the process I was transferred like everyone else and I think it was because I am 1.92m. Reacher is 1.98 m tall.

I think everyone is trying to get a super authentic version of Reacher on screen. So there is always a star in my mind when it comes to this role. But I had to fight for it. And now that we’re here, it’s exploded.

Richer started Richson’s career

As Alan Ritchson points out in this anecdote, his career was transformed by this role in one of Prime Video’s biggest hits. Since his inception, the actor has been cast in projects that showcase his dramatic side and offer a different nuance to his acting sensibilities. Ritchson notably appeared in Fast X as Agent Ames, a role originally intended for Keanu Reeves.

As a long-running film franchise, Fast & Furious has a history of bringing in new action stars to share scenes with established stars. This is the case of John Cena and Jason Momoa in the last episodes. Alan Ritchson will also appear in Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, opposite Henry Cavill, and is expected on Prime Video.

He will also be seen opposite Hilary Swank in Ordinary Angels in 2024. So Alan Ritchson had a lot to deal with after his breakthrough role as Jack Reacher.
