“It’s official: we’re partnering with Kojima Productions for a live-action film adaptation of Hideo Kojima’s acclaimed video game, DEATH STRANDING.

Born from the imagination of the saga creator “Metal Gear Solid“, this action video game, which was released in November 2019 on Playstation 4, has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide (taking into account players who bought the game by subscribing to PlayStation Plus services).

In December 2022, a film adaptation of the game was announced, produced and supervised by Hideo Kojima.

On June 18th, Hideo Kojima reassured fans by tweeting that he would be “Deeply involved in production, supervision, story, appearance, design and content” of the film, but will not be the director of the feature film.

It is not yet known who will be responsible for writing and directing the film, but when the project was announced, it was to introduce new ideas and new characters to the world of Death Stranding.

Alex Lebovitch of Hammerstone Studios, who is producing the film alongside Hideo Kojima, said:Unlike other big budget video games, this will be something more intimate and grounded. Our goal is to redefine what video game adaptation can be when you have creative and artistic freedom. This movie will be an authentic Hideo Kojima production.”.

Although the video game features many movie actors such as Norman ReedusMads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, Margaret Qualley, Troy Baker, Tommie Earl Jenkins and Lindsay Wagner, it is not known if the latter will participate in the film adaptation or, like The Last of Us, other actors will play the roles.
