Santos’ year ended sadly for the fans, with relegation to the Brazilian league. But Alvinegro Praiano’s performance throughout the season premeditated the bad ending. In 2023, Peixe finished with a 40% success rate, the worst of the century.
The negative score surpassed the results of 2022 (43.75%) and 2021 (44%), until then the worst since the beginning of the new millennium.

This season 62 matches have been played, 19 wins, 19 draws and 24 defeats. The beginning of the year had already given indications of what would happen, when Santos finished the first phase of the Paulistão in third place in the group, behind Red Bull Bragantino and Botafogo-SP, ending up eliminated.
In the Copa do Brasil, Peixe reached the round of 16, but fell to Bahia on penalties after two draws. For the Copa Sudamericana, the team stopped at the group stage and finished behind Newell’s Old Boys and Audax Italiano, with one win, two draws and three defeats.
The biggest disappointment was at the Brasileirão. With 11 wins, ten draws and 17 defeats, the Baixada Santista team finished in 17th place and were relegated for the first time in their history.
Now, Santos is trying to get back on its feet and is planning a return to football’s elite in 2024. The team will begin its commitments with Paulistão in January and will compete in the Brasileirão’s Serie B throughout the year.
