The series, which originates from La Casa de Papel, Berlin, features Andres de Fonolosa alias Berlin, one of the iconic characters of the original fiction. Created by Alex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato, this prequel tells fans about one of the most spectacular heists carried out by the iconic character Pedro Alonso.
Andres de Fonolosa is accompanied by a gang of skilled robbers consisting of Kayla (Michelle Jenner), Damiane (Tristan Ulloa), Cameron (Begona Vargas), Roy (Julio Peña) and Bruce (Joel Sanchez) to steal jewels from Europeans. The fee is estimated at 44 million euros… in Paris!
Which meant that the series team had to settle in the French capital to shoot in Paris for artistic purposes and to make the audience dream by playing on the postcard side of the city of love.
And yet, if most of the action in Berlin takes place in Paris, the team ended up shooting a few scenes in the capital, according to the information included in the press kit of the Spanish fiction.
On which Parisian locations was the Berlin series filmed?
Thus, the Berlin team spent 4 weeks in Paris and the filming in the French capital was prepared down to the millimeter, according to Cristina López Ferras, executive producer:
“Filming in the heart of a big city is already difficult, but Paris even more so. We had enough pre-production time to prepare well. I worked very well with the French team and luckily the weather was on our side. We started the production of the series by shooting in Paris and that helped generate the energy that continued throughout the season.
Therefore, Berlin actors conquered the streets of Paris for a month and filmed in emblematic places such as the Sacré Cœur, the streets of Montmartre, the Pont Bir Hakeim, the Quais de Seine, but also the Vert Galant square, especially for romantics. Camille (Samantha Siqueiros) walks through Berlin and conquers it.
Plus, the two lovers head to Chateau d’Ormesson-sur-Marne in Val-de-Marne, dubbed Le Rêve d’Or, for their little romantic getaway.
Among other must-see locations in the series, we find the street shared by the hotel where the gang lives and the apartment of Camille and her husband Francois Polignac, rue Valentin Hauy in the 15th arrondissement of Paris.
Another street that Parisians might recognize: Avenue des Saxe between the 7th and 15th arrondissements. The robbers cut it like the Beatles cut Abbey Road.
Finally, the church the gang goes to to enter the catacombs is the Church of St. Julien Le Pavre in the 5th arrondissement.
And this is Berlin’s most prominent Parisian locations, as the rest of the filming took place in Spain or in the studio, in specific locations that the team transferred to French locations. The team even recreated fake catacombs in the studio for a more realistic effect!
The Berlin series is available on Netflix.
