Reacher: Tom Cruise’s nod is moving into a second season, and for good reason

Available since last Friday on Prime Video – with the first three episodes – Season 2 of Reacher is off to a strong start. In the second episode, Reacher (Alan Ritchson) and his team, including Frances Niggle (Maria Stan), David O’Donnell (Sean Sipos) and Carla Dixon (Serinda Swan), suspect that someone is after their old US Army unit. 110th MP Special Investigations.

When asked who could hate 110 so much to the point of destroying its members one by one, one name came up: James Barry!

Jack Reacher fans, whether fans of the novels or the movies, remember this. James Barry is an important character in the book Infuriated madness, as well as the film adaptation of Jack Reacher with Tom Cruise. Since then, Joseph Sikora has been playing.

In the series, Reacher immediately rules out Barry as a suspect. He explains to O’Donnell, who doesn’t believe he helped him out of a bad situation about a year ago, and therefore owes him.

With this simple answer, the screenwriters accidentally show us the events of the novel Infuriated madness It happened before the start of the second season. In the book, Reacher helps this James Barr and maintains his innocence when the sniper is accused of the murders.

Back in his army days, 110 again mistook Barry as the murderer of several soldiers, but failed to charge him because the army wanted to cover up the matter.

The scene isn’t meant to be just about what Reacher has been up to during his wanderings across the country in the two years since the first season ended. This is not simply to show that events in the series’ universe happen in the same order as in the book’s universe.

It’s not simple either Easter egg For many the best Reacher story, but also the most popular outside of readers thanks to the Tom Cruise film adaptation. Perhaps there is a message behind this.

Adaptation is excluded

Indeed, Reacher fans around the world are wondering which books will be adapted for future seasons of the series. A third season has also been ordered, but we don’t know yet which novel it will be based on.

And it’s this madness that regularly comes up in discussions about the stories fans want to see with Alan Ritchson because it’s one of Lee Child’s best books.

There are those who want to see a new adaptation. But because it’s one of the few books that has already been adapted, there’s another section of fans that would rather live without it.

With a brief hint from James Barry, the writers seem to have positioned themselves. Events happened, they are in the past. Since we shouldn’t expect season three or any future season to suddenly happen between season one and season two, it’s clear that the craziness is a thing of the past, things happened. There will be no adaptation.

There are already 28 Jack Reacher novels, the 29th is currently being written. So there’s an incredible amount of stories, so there’s no need to revisit what’s already been told.
