Charlie Hunnam, who we’re about to discover in Rebels on the Moon, almost played one of the most iconic figures in the Star Wars saga! In Interview with Entertainment TonightThe British actor reveals that he was in discussion to play the character of Anakin Skywalker. Discussions the likes of which he hasn’t had since he actually met…George Lucas!
Charlie Hunnam clearly feels privileged to have met the father of Star Wars to discuss the character of Anakin Skywalker, a role Leonardo DiCaprio has also applied for. “You know, it got to the point where I met George Lucas?”he blurted out in astonishment. “I don’t think he meets a lot of actors. I think there were more than two or three of us fighting for the role.”
Too fit to slip into a Jedi apprentice suit, Charlie Hunnam barely made it. However, he soon knew that he would not be chosen… “I remember meeting George Lucas was very awkward”declares the 43-year-old actor, who appeared in the TV series Sons of Anarchy. “When I came out, I was walking down the street saying, ‘Of course I don’t have the part,’ and I was right. Sometimes it’s a matter of feeling.”
In the end, it’s Hayden Christensen who will get the coveted role of Anakin Skywalker, the character that will be played by Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. As for Charlie Hunnam, if his rendezvous with the famous intergalactic saga doesn’t happen, he’ll still be in a major SF production credit starting this Friday, December 22nd.
