Directed by Ridley Scott, this film deals with the rise and fall of one of New York’s biggest drug trafficking kingpins.

Ridley Scott he is known for his epic and historical films such as Gladiator, Crusade and, more recently, Napoleon. In The Gangster, dealt with a much more contemporary story: that of Frank Lucas, one of the biggest drug trafficking bosses in the United States. He bypassed the Italian mafia in New York and revolutionized drug trafficking by bypassing intermediaries and purchasing the substance directly from Southeast Asia.



In this 2007 film, Frank Lucas is played by Denzel Washington (The protector) and is chased by none other than an exciting game of cat and mouse Russell Crowefrom Gladiator, who plays detective Richie Roberts in his third collaboration with Scott.

“Either you are someone, or you are nobody”

True to this motto, Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington) reaches the top of the drug world in New York. His strategy is as simple as it is ingenious: he uses the US military during the violent Vietnam War to obtain heroin directly from the source.




His pure and economical “Blue Magic” quickly conquers the streets of Harlem and makes him the most powerful man in the underworld, the first black man to defeat the Italian mafia. But the drug is not without victims and soon calls detective Richie Roberts (Russell Crowe) to the scene, who sets out to convict Frank with a special unit.
