“The Boy and the Crane” – the latest animated film from Studio Ghibli directed by Hayao Miyazaki – will premiere in Brazil by March 2024. That’s what Sato Company, the film’s distributor here, said in a statement .

The animation, which premiered in July in Japan and has already arrived in U.S. theaters, marks Miyazaki’s return to the film industry since 2013, when he decided to retire, but then changed his mind.
“The Boy and the Crane”
The film has already grossed $113 million (approximately R$552 million) internationally. Originally released in Japan, the film had the largest opening for a Studio Ghibli title in the country, even without an early release.
Expectations are growing that “The Boy and the Crane” will be nominated for an Oscar ahead of the ceremony, which takes place on March 10. An English-language trailer for the film was released in November, broadening its reach and anticipation among international audiences.
(Fun fact: The person playing the heron in the American dub is actor Robert Pattinson – whose performance, in which he appears unrecognizable, attracted attention on social media.)

About the animation
The film is inspired by a 1937 novel and contains fantastic and autobiographical elements. The story follows Mahito, a boy who moves to the countryside after World War II and discovers a magical world, exploring complex, adult themes.
“The Boy and the Crane” has already received critical recognition, with two nominations at the 2024 Golden Globes, in the categories of Best Animated Film and Best Original Score.
The film also marks another collaboration between Miyazaki and composer Joe Hisaishi, who together created several memorable works – for example: “Princess Mononoke” (1997), “Spirited Away” (2001) and “Animated Castle” (2001) 2004. ). The arrival of this film in Brazil is a long-awaited event by fans of animation and Miyazaki’s work.
