Apple explores AI deals with news publishers, says The New York Times

Apple has been in talks with major media organizations in recent weeks, seeking permission to use their content in the development of the company’s generative artificial intelligence systems, the New York Times reported Friday.

According to the report, which cites people familiar with the discussions, the company has proposed multi-year deals worth at least $50 million to license the news archives.

News organizations contacted by Apple include Condé Nast, publisher of Vogue and the New Yorker; NBC News; and IAC, which owns People, the Daily Beast and Better Homes and Gardens, the New York Times said.

According to the report, some of the publishers contacted by Apple were not enthusiastic about Apple’s proposal. Apple did not comment on the matter when contacted by Reuters.
