Fluminense is the sixth Brazilian to reach second place in the Club World Cup

Fluminense lost 4-0 to Manchester City last Friday in Saudi Arabia

With the defeat against Manchester City, Fluminense joined the group of Brazilian clubs that finished second in the FIFA Club World Cup. Since the tournament was officially organized by the body, Brazilian teams have participated in 10 finals, including the one in 2023, and have been champions 4 times with Corinthians (2000 and 2012), Sao Paulo (2005) and Internacional (2006 ).

Fluminense joins Vasco, Santos, Grêmio, Flamengo and Palmeiras among Brazilian clubs who reached the World Cup final and finished as runners-up. On the last three occasions the defeats have been against English teams: Liverpool beat Flamengo in 2019, Chelsea beat Palmeiras in 2021 and this year Flu finished second against Manchester City.

Take a look at the updated table of all the finals featuring the Brazilians in the FIFA Club World Cup:

  • 2000: Corinthians 0 (4) – (3) 0 Vasco da Gama
  • 2005: Sao Paulo – Liverpool 1 – 0 (ING)
  • 2006: Internacional 1 – 0 Barcelona (ESP)
