Flamengo has already prepared everything to announce its first reinforcement for 2024: De la Cruz, from River Plate. The Uruguayan midfielder leaves the Argentine club after seven years as an idol and impressive numbers, having won 12 titles. The player is the Rossoneri’s main bet to turn the key in 2024 and overcome the various failures of 2023.
De la Cruz joined River Plate in 2017 and has since played 236 matches for the Millonarios. In total, 36 goals were scored and 40 assists distributed, a fundamental part of all the victorious campaigns of the Argentine team in recent seasons. Among the titles, the Uruguayan won a Libertadores and a Recopa Sul-Americana.
De la Cruz’s farewell game for River even came with a trophy. Last Friday (22), the Millonarios beat Rosario Central 2-0 and won the Champions Trophy. Shortly after the match, the midfielder gave an interview and confirmed that he will leave the Argentine team. According to him, the decision to leave the club was “the most difficult of my life”.
– I leave River Plate in the best year of my career. It was one of the hardest decisions of my life. From a personal point of view, I needed a change of scenery, to change what I was doing a little. I leave very mature and very grateful,” he said.
